I just read some sad news in a ski magazine: Jamie Pierre, my favorite skier, is dead, he died in an avalanche the other day, when Canada had just received a huge ammount of fresh snow.
He was a crazy guy, competing in cliff jumping competitions jumping from the world’s highest ski drop – but this time, nature’s powers took him.
The ski magazine wrote a tribute to Jamie, which was a nice gesture.
Too often magazines and newspapers are only interested in the dirty details of how he died, and do not actually care about the person.
He caused an avalanche in the Snowbird area, which is closed for back country skiers once snow falls and before the lifts open.
The ski patrol had not yet controlled the area and made it safe from avalanches and snow storms, which is probably why he caused one.
It is always really sad to see a talent leave early, but it makes you realize jus thow strong nature’s force is and how much you should respect it.
You should take risks, but do not be foolish, even the best skiers make mistakes and underestimate nature and overestimate their own talent.
We test ourselves, fate and nature more and more – not realizing in just what danger we put ourselves in.
Sky diving these days is pretty common for people to do, as is bungee jumping and diving.
But then again, everything which gives pleasure can be dangerous, everything which is fun is dangerous.
Eating candy and cakes is dangerous if you do it too much, horseback riding is among the most dangerous sports – if you do not take it slow and respect the horse.
Life is dangerous, you will die, you do not know when or how but you will, and there is no point escaping it because it will happen no matter what.
Just do not be foolish and make it happen earlier than it needs to.
